ONE BILLION RISING

14 Feb ONE BILLION RISING

One Billion Rising came out of the V-Day Foundation and is a global movement to end violence against women. In my Women’s and Gender Studies classes I not only teach theoretically about the pathology of interpersonal violence, I also encourage students to speak out against it. So last February 14, I took a group of students who were interested in doing more than reading a textbook. We rode the metrorail to downtown Miami and experienced all that was One Billion Rising. The students wept, they danced, they networked with women’s organizations, they sent wishes for peace into the ceremonial pot.

Below are photos of the event.
